Men's T20 World Cup 2024 SriLanka vs South Africa, 4th Match

Srilanka Vs SA World Cup T20 Live. Sri Lankans and South Africans have cherished memories from 2014. On March 1, in Dubai, South Africa triumphed over Pakistan in the men's under-19 World Cup final. Thirty-seven days later, in Dhaka, Sri Lanka defeated India in the final of what was then known as the men's World T20. However, neither country has celebrated a major global cricket victory since.

The closest Sri Lanka came to another major trophy was the 2015 World Cup quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by South Africa, who subsequently lost their semifinal to New Zealand. In the 2014 World T20 semifinals, India defeated South Africa, and they did so again in the semifinals of the 2023 ODI World Cup. While Sri Lanka also claimed the 1996 World Cup, South Africa's under-19 triumph in 2014 remains their only significant win.

In ICC tournaments, Sri Lanka and South Africa have made little progress over the past decade. Australia and England have dominated, winning five of the six men's ODI and T20 World Cups, with West Indies claiming the other.

Despite producing some of the era's most memorable players, neither Sri Lanka nor South Africa have consistently formed top-tier teams. Will this change at the 2024 T20 World Cup? Their upcoming clash in Nassau County on Monday may provide some answers.

The warm-up match at the same venue, the inaugural game at the temporary 34,000-seater stadium, suggests challenging batting conditions. In that game between India and Bangladesh, the pitch produced variable bounce and seam movement, with only one half-century scored and nine of the 16 bowlers conceding fewer than eight runs an over. It was reminiscent of 2014's tough conditions.
